Depending on who shows up, we can go to Quimby or split the group into 2 with moderate riders going up on 130.

Rain cancels ride but we'll still get together to shoot the bull if that's the case and talk about the upcoming Siclista Xmas party and figure out what to do for our friend, Rusty, a Tracy Rider.

Rides I'd like to do b4 5/23/2009

- Century along the coast. From Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz.
- Climb Mount Hamilton from the back side.

Both of these rides needs some preparation and training so I am planning to do a recon/training ride of the coast. Maybe HMB to Bonny Doon for a 75 miles out and back ride or a shorter 50-60miles. Another option is to ride and have lunch to where El Capitan and the Pres had their ice cream last time we did the coastal century with my BikeForum buddies. I'm thinking of doing this recon this Sunday then do the full century the next weekend or after the Primavera. Let me know if you guys are up to it.

The training ride for the Mt Ham ride will be from Pleasanton up Mines Road to the Junction. To be followed by the full climb to Mt Ham.

Ride On! Grant Ranch Park

Despite the good dose of rainfall on Saturday night and the possible ride cancellation looming diehard Siclistas still manage to ride! Ride on guys!

Because of either time constraints or afternoon commitments there were two rides formed for Sunday. Mt. Hamilton and the other a local loop via Mission Blvd, 84 Niles Rd, Foothill Rd, Dublin Canyon Rd.

I chose to meet up with ride leader Jack for the Mt. Hamilton ride since the starting location was just 4 miles from my house. Johnny rode up to my house and then we proceeded to Piedmont/Sierra Road where we met up with Jack, TonyC, and Rodge.

The five of us started up Penitencia Creek Road towards Alum Rock Park and took a detour to Crothers Road to reach Mt. Hamilton Road. Johnny rode up part way on Mt. Hamilton Road then had to leave us and head back. TonyC, Jack, Rodge and I continued on.

On our way up, the road became foggy. We decided it would be safe just to continue up to Grant Ranch Park then turn around. During the our ride, our discussions mostly covered any thing to do bikes, biking, (of course :)) and health. It was a good ride. Jack, TonyC and Rodge got to try out Crothers Road.

Mt Hamilton ride tomorrow

It will be a short ride. We will meet at the corner of Sierra Road and Piedmont at 9AM. I'm not sure if the ice cream shop is still there at the corner but that's the meeting place.

Anyone who wants to have a nasty warm up can come earlier and cross Piedmont towards Sierra. 3+ miles up and 3+ miles down.
No worries, I already talked to the rain gods and we are good to go :)

Mt. Hamilton Post-ride (please share your pictures..)

It was a blast coming up and down Mt.Hamilton as we planned - Rodge, Jack, Rodge_M, Benjie, John_M, Elmer, BobbyG, JohnnyBoy, Manny, and of course the honorable Tony Madone were all in full gear. The day started a bit cloudy, but the sun broke through eventually. A couple in the group have great pictures to share on this fun ride, and overall as a group consensus, we've rated this as one of the tougher rides with close to 19 miles to the top from Alum Rock (with about 16 miles of total climbing). It's not the grade (the climb was very gradual), but that seemingly endless miles and miles headed up the Lick Observatory. Once we got up there, we were beholden to one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Diablo Range with upwards of 4,200 feet of total elevation. According to one of our resident experts on Hamilton, JohnnyBoy, the Lick Observatory atop Mt. Hamilton is the highest elevation point in the whole bay area. Pictures should be coming up soon, thanks to the digital gadgetries of those who took photos en route to the top and at the apex of the climb. This climb has to be repeated. We're very glad everyone did well, safe and sound - there were a couple of minor incidents, but the team pulled together so that everyone was able to mount their specific two-wheeled gas-less locomotives, and ride safely back to the Longs meeting area. We were all definitely watched from above..

..after all the secretions (and excretions) of that notorious fermented grape juice (beer in short) the Siclista's have been presented the mt. Hamilton challenge...i'll start working on my trainer, video, climbs..this is going to be a ride of a lifetime, rodge, and who knows.. aftr the ride, we may also have our own tales to tell..:-) btw, when's our Christmas party?
