Once again! An invitation to our fellow kababayans & cycling enthusiasts,
Francis-Marlon Ignacio, an accomplished long-distance cyclist, friends & ADOBO Velo comrades has once again organized an unofficial Century Fun Ride called "Tour de Francis IV: TOUR OF THREE LAKES: CASTAIC, ELIZABETH & QUAIL LAKE". Due to the responses we received since then, this will be the 3rd such meeting this year to include the first tour held lastDecember 2007. We are inviting everyone to ride with the fastest growing Filipino-American Cycling Club based in Los Angeles. This ride will be held on December 1, 2007 Saturday 7:00 am starting at Castaic Lake to Quail Lake & back. Its 100 miles of rural roads mostly hilly to rolling, light to no traffic, & approximately 9,500 feet elevation gain. SAG stops at every 25 miles for food, refreshments, & refills. There will also be vehicle support along the route. NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND! We'll gather at Castaic Lake Recreation Area ($10 for parking, we encourage carpooling) off exit 176, just east of Fwy 5. Be there before 7:00 am & depart at exactly 7:30.
Mandy Genato created this link to show the details of the route. Please go through the details of this map to familiarize yourself and know what to expect: http://maps.google.com/maps
We advise all participants to be physically fit, prepared for the ride, & your road bike properly maintained. Your safety is always your priority but it's still everybody's concern. Wearing a helmet with straps properly adjusted and buckled at all times is mandatory. Always obey traffic rules. & this is all because safety is of utmost importance. Bring extra tubes & tools you might need. We also respectfully ask the riders to sign-in upon arrival & sign a waiver.
Believe it or not, this is just the 4th gathering with the previous tours mostly ridden by friends, our counterparts from MMCC, & ADOBO Velo members. But due to everyone's enthusiasm, synergy & the camaraderie built since the first Tour de Francis, the recent Giro d'Barkada held at Stockton last July, & Tour de Poway Fun Ride earlier this month with MMCC, &, this ride must happen! And now we are inviting kapwa siklista from all over & not just from California, to have another unique gathering. We are proud to invite members from Luzvimin (USA) Racing Team of Stockton, Fil-Am Cycling Team (F.A.C.T.) from Fresno, Siclista California & MyTropa from San Francisco Bay Area, Siklista Cycling Team from Houston, & once again, Mira Mesa
Cycling Club. Plus a loud shout-out to Phil. Executive Cycling Association (PECA), PinoyRoadies. org, and CebuCycling. com members for another fantastic ride through the scenic back roads of north Los Angeles. Accomplished Pinoy cyclists were also invited so have your autograph pens ready!
If lodging is needed, accommodations are available at Castaic Lake Inn on Parker Road, 1.5 miles from Castaic Lake. There are other hotels in the Castaic area also, you can find them and make reservations on-line…. Or sweet-talk your friends or relatives in the area! Please make your reservations & plans early to guarantee a great weekend!
See you early at Castaic Lake & let's start the fun!
PS. This stage is dedicated to members affected by the ongoing brush fires surrounding Southern California. A fundraiser will be setup specifically for those affected. Your monetary help will be greatly appreciated by all.

Hello fellow siclista's from the southland - just wanted to convey that our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your communities on the recent fires in the southern ca. In addition to the general help info, if there's a filipino outreach program from your end, let us know, so we may be able to help out our fellow kababayans who may have been displaced by the Santiago fire.

Dear Tour de Francis IV club participants,
The ADOBO Velos had a meeting today in preparation for the upcoming TdF IV.
PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT:
1. A bib number will be given to the participant upon sign-in and completion of the waiver. It must be pinned on the jersey or jacket and visible for all KOM points and for other reasons.
2. There will be a TdF IV King of the Mountain Champion! Prize is still TBD depending on monetary funds. There will be a total of four climbs with points for the first 3 riders crossing each of the finish lines. Points given are 5, 3, and 1 respectively. The rider with the highest collected points will be the Overall KOM Champion! No place for second!!! So train hard!! On the same topic, there will be an updated map very soon to show the four KOM finish lines.
3. There will be no sprints because of safety reasons.
4. Please don’t forget to bring clothing appropriate for the cold and possibly windy weather. Jackets, wind breakers, or a vest besides leg and arm warmers are a must.
5. The ride will be officially over at 4:00 pm and we will have a sweeper to pick up riders still out on the road. This is mainly for safety reasons.
ITEMS NEEDED FROM EACH CLUBS:
1. I’ve seen that a list is being made by each club. Please send me the names of participants before the 24th of this month. This will help us estimate the amount of food drinks need throughout the day.
2. Please email the logo of your club as soon as possible to Edgar Uyan at edgaruyan@yahoo.com. The logos will be needed for the certificates. (Louie J.– do you have Gawad Kalinga’s logo?)
Let us know if you have any questions so it can be addressed asap. I believe a continuous exchange of information is crucial to the success for all TdF IV participants.
Let’s make the 4th TdF memorable and continuation link for future and bigger gatherings.

November 10 (2nd update)
To all,
We have a few updates after surveying the route this past week:
- Start and finish in Castaic Lake Recreational Area (West Ramp). We will send and post the updated map as soon as we get it finalized. Please refer to http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=628 for additional info and directions to get to the park. You can also find this in the ADOBO Velo’s Yahoo Group - Links Section.
- The entrance gate opens at 6:45am. We advise everyone to be ready as much as they could before getting to the park since it will takes a couple more minutes to get to the parking area plus we start the ride promptly at 7:30am. There will be signs to assist you to get to the parking area. Just to be realized, we only have 45 minutes or less to get ready, so let’s try our best to start the ride on time so we can be back and have enough time to party!
- There will be a $10 entrance/parking fee. We apologize for the miss-information posted in ADOBO Velo messages. We later found out that it was only free during weekdays. Everybody pays on weekends! As a tip for those staying or lodging in the area, if you prefer, you can just leave your car and ride your bike to the park. With that, you can enter the park early plus had some warm-ups done already!
- During the Fun ride, and those arriving at mile 38 (approx) on or after 12:30pm. This is the corner of Pine Canyon Road and Three Points Road. Our volunteers will direct to head back to save time, but this will be after the majority of riders returning from Quail Lake (mile 50) passes through. We have to let them through first in respect to our KOM contenders. Don’t be tempted to cheat them out of their contention. It’s just proper etiquette. Food and beverages will be provided at there also.
- Just added for more drama! 5 KOMs NOW! NOT JUST 4! The final KOM and finish line is at the top of the 300 ft climb at mile 94.5. This is in the park at the corner before getting to the parking area.
- KOM's are at mile 9.8, 46.5, 54.0, 85.7 and 94.5. Points are doubled on the final KOM! 10, 6, and 2 points respectively.
- 95.7 total miles with 9,800 ft of elevation gain.
Lastly, we just wanted to confirm from our club representatives that we need a list of riders submitted on or before the 24th of November. We also need your club logos as soon as possible (preferably before the 17th. We copied your logos from your websites but there’s no guarantee that it will be as clear it normally shows. We still need logos from F.A.C.T. and Siklista Cycling Team from Houston. For those who sent it already, thanks and please disregard this request.
Manny L./mygringos, please confirm if you can be there. Thanks.
As a favor again to Roy G. and Frank G.,
Please forward this email to Cesar Galvez, Rodger Tagle (sinokami), Rozel Tupaz, and others I missed. I sincerely appreciate all your help.
Again, we’ll keep you posted for any updates or changes.

Advanced Happy Thanksgiving to all! We all hope you and your family will have a great time with friends and relatives next week. The following weekend will be the awaited 'challenging fun ride' that everyone has been talking about. The days are going by fast and next thing you know you have to prepare your gear, your bike and yourself for this special day. Please have enough time to make sure you have everything ready including your travel itineraries and your car. Double check and triple check everything.
As for the 3rd Update:
1. KOM participants will have their bib numbers signed by volunteers when they arrive at the 1st SAG Stop at Lake Elizabeth and 2nd SAG Stop at Quail Lake. This will be proof that you reached these 2 points ‘fair and square’ to be qualified for the KOM points.
2. The 12:30 pm cut-off at 3 Points will have drinks, gels, and light food available. Riders at this point can go back before the lead group but must let them pass through. Let’s show proper cycling etiquette at all times.
3. There will be ‘NO’ 3rd Sag at Lake Elizabeth. Drinks and refreshments will be available right after the corner of Palm Canyon Rd. and Lake Hughes Rd. Everyone will be directed to turn right at this corner.
4. The map has been updated to show the starting area and the 5 KOMs. It is the same link as it was sent before. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&om=1&msa=0&msid=110924623171110006830.00043cdbb76f7dc630b11&z=10
5. KOM cash prize will be determined at that day. As an added treat, there will be a surprise for 6 best riders!
6. Lastly let’s all be responsible citizens, littering anywhere and anytime will not be tolerated. There will be trash bags at the each SAG stop. Please discard your trash at these locations. Let’s keep our Tour de Francis route as clean as it was the day before.
Hopefully this will be the last update. And that we have everything finalized. Please spread this email out to all.
If there’s more, we’ll send a 4th one.
Last note to all team leads, please send your roster and your club logo as soon as possible. It will help the organizers do their work early and avoid the last minute crunch.
Sincerely,
Arden Arindaeng
