Mga KABIKES!
Ipagdasal natin na sana ay manalo ang mga Pinoy na kalahok sa WORLD CUP ngayon Friday sa ADT VELODROME sa Los Angeles! Good Luck to our own Victor Espiritu and Steve Pelaez! para sa detalye: http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=3383
Wow! Filipinos showing stronger involvement at the UCI Track World Cup held at ADT Event Center in Los Angeles! Victor Espiritu sponsored by Rolando Hizu competing in the 15 Km (60 lap) Points Race Qualifying Round scheduled for the 18th Friday. And Steve Pelaez competing in the 7.5 Km Scratch Race Qualifying Event for Saturday and the 1 Km Time Trial later that evening. We also had a fare share of ADOBO Velo members and other Pinoys in the audience together with Junior Champ Coryn and Dad Wally Rivera, Manny Legaspi of mygringos.com, and former National Cycling Team members Deo Asuncion and Wilson Blas.
As most of us know about Victor Espiritu’s headaches from his last minute travel arrangements, he managed to finish his race by riding wisely and defensively. He was able to keep up with the pace and avoid a crash. Out of 17 riders, 3 did not finish, so we all think despite of his situation, he had a respectable finish. As for Steve, his race was brutally fast where he had to close a few gaps without any help. He showed a lot of aggressiveness and that looked promising. His Time Trial event was held in the evening session where he was paired against Michael Christensen of Denmark. He started off the gate very smooth and fast as he led the first lap and placed 19th when the event finished.
If we look at the overall experience 2 weeks ago up to this weekend to include the previous 2 World Cups, we learned so much from our continued volunteering, managing last year’s participation of Deo Asuncion, and then for these 2 great cyclists! It was a small gathering of great minds and influential people around Pinoy Cycling, a reunion of old friends, and created new friends also. All these things will make us better prepared for the next UCI Track Word Cups in our backyards. Finally, certificates of appreciation were delightfully given to Victor and Steve as this was also very meaningful to all ADOBO Velo members. I personally felt that we created an important link to our counterparts back home and here in the States. We thank you very much for accepting ADOBO Velo Fil-Am Cycling Club into the mainstream of Philippine Cycling.
